Keep the glass clean

Use a cleaner suitable for automotive glass and a soft cloth, following the vehicle manufacturer’s instructions. If the glass has aftermarket window film, follow the film maker’s cleaning guidance and use a compatible product.

Care for the wiper blades

Dirt on the glass or blades can contribute to poor wiping. Clean the blades according to the vehicle manual, inspect them for wear or damage and replace them when needed. Streaking or smearing that remains after cleaning is a reason to check the blades.

Have chips and cracks assessed

Laminated windshield glass can break. Its plastic interlayer helps hold broken fragments together, but damaged glass still needs assessment. The type, size, depth and location of the damage help determine whether repair is appropriate. Read what windshield repair can do for realistic expectations, including the possibility of a remaining visible blemish.
