Auto Glass Replacement & Repair FAQ’s
How long should I reserve for windshield service?
A typical windshield installation takes about 30–45 minutes. Also allow for the technician’s safe drive-away waiting period and any required ADAS calibration. Finishing the installation does not mean the vehicle is ready to move.
Do not drive or move your vehicle until the safe drive-away time provided by your technician has passed. This is based on the Dow U-428 Plus adhesive manufacturer’s temperature and humidity requirements.
Can I keep driving with a cracked windshield?
Have the damage assessed promptly because a crack can affect visibility and glass performance. If your view is obstructed or you are unsure the vehicle is safe to drive, stop in a safe place and arrange assistance. Do not continue a trip simply because the crack has not spread yet.
Who needs to be there for the mobile appointment?
When you book, agree with AAR on who will be present, how the technician can access the vehicle and who can discuss the service. Set those arrangements before the appointment rather than assuming the vehicle can be left unattended.
Can I request service at home or at work?
AAR provides mobile auto glass service in Houston and surrounding areas. Give us the exact home or workplace address and the vehicle details so we can confirm coverage and the proposed work location. Call 832-303-0318 or email info@aarautoglass.com to arrange the appointment.
What should I check before using my glass insurance?
Ask your insurer about coverage, the deductible and any approval or documentation requirements. Then ask AAR whether we can handle your particular claim and how payment will work before scheduling. Insurance benefits and claim arrangements are specific to your policy and job.
Why is a vehicle-specific windshield quote needed?
The glass, windshield features and any required ADAS calibration can differ between vehicles, even within a model range. Send AAR the year, make, model, complete VIN and service address so the requirements and price can be confirmed before you book.
When is the vehicle allowed to move after replacement?
Do not drive or move your vehicle until the safe drive-away time provided by your technician has passed. This is based on the Dow U-428 Plus adhesive manufacturer’s temperature and humidity requirements.
Use that release time rather than the point when the glass is fitted. Installation, the safe drive-away wait and any required ADAS calibration are separate considerations when planning your next trip.
Is a crack eligible for repair?
AAR needs to review the damage before promising a repair. Its size, depth and location, together with the glass condition, help determine whether repair or replacement is appropriate. A repair serves a structural purpose and may leave a visible mark.
What should I do if replacement is needed instead of repair?
Ask AAR to confirm the correct glass, quote, appointment and any ADAS calibration requirement for your vehicle. After replacement, follow the technician’s safe drive-away time and the aftercare precautions below. Keep your receipt for any warranty request.
Customer Aftercare Responsibilities
- Do not drive or move your vehicle until the safe drive-away time provided by your technician has passed. This is based on the Dow U-428 Plus adhesive manufacturer’s temperature and humidity requirements.
- After that waiting period, keep driving to a minimum for the remainder of the first 24 hours after installation as an additional precaution.
- Keep the retention tape in place for at least 24 hours.
- Leave a window open approximately one inch and avoid slamming doors for at least 24 hours.
- Avoid high-pressure car washes for at least 48 hours.
Warranty Terms
- Windshield stress cracks are guaranteed for 90 days from installation.
- Workmanship is guaranteed for the life of the vehicle, subject to limitations and exclusions.
- The warranty expires when vehicle ownership changes.
- Aftermarket antennas and devices are not guaranteed.
- AAR Auto Glass is not liable for incidental or consequential damages.
- Your receipt is required for warranty service.
- Warranty work is available Monday–Friday only.
Should I expect a repaired chip to disappear?
No. Rock chip repair is intended to stabilize eligible damage and restore structural integrity, not return the glass to a new cosmetic appearance. The repair location may still be visible, so appearance alone is not a guarantee of the repair outcome.
Are replacement and chip-repair warranties the same?
They cover different work. Replacement terms include the following limitations:
- Windshield stress cracks are guaranteed for 90 days from installation.
- Workmanship is guaranteed for the life of the vehicle, subject to limitations and exclusions.
- The warranty expires when vehicle ownership changes.
- Aftermarket antennas and devices are not guaranteed.
- AAR Auto Glass is not liable for incidental or consequential damages.
- Your receipt is required for warranty service.
- Warranty work is available Monday–Friday only.
For rock chip repair, distinguish spreading during the attempt from spreading after a completed paid repair:
Rock chip repair is intended to restore the structural integrity of the glass, not its cosmetic appearance. A visible mark may remain after repair.
If the chip spreads during the repair attempt
AAR Auto Glass will not charge the customer or insurer for the attempted repair. We do not guarantee the windshield against further damage.
If a completed paid repair later spreads
Under AAR Auto Glass’s lifetime rock chip repair warranty, if the chip later spreads from the original repair location, we will apply the amount paid for that completed repair toward windshield replacement with AAR Auto Glass.
Does AAR handle broken side-mirror glass?
Send your vehicle’s year, make and model and explain the mirror damage before booking. AAR must confirm whether the particular glass and service are available; a windshield appointment should not be assumed to include side-mirror work.
What if my windshield has a camera or rain sensor?
Mention these features when requesting the quote and supply the complete VIN. They affect the glass and service requirements. A windshield-mounted ADAS camera may require manufacturer-specified calibration after replacement even if no warning light appears. AAR offers mobile ADAS camera recalibration for $250 on applicable vehicles; the procedure and suitability of your location must be confirmed.
Can I request glass for a commercial vehicle or equipment?
Provide the vehicle or equipment make, model and details of the glass that needs attention. AAR will review glass availability and installation requirements before confirming service. Do not assume that all heavy equipment or specialized glass is covered by a general commercial-vehicle appointment.
How do I find out whether a same-day visit is available?
Contact AAR at 832-303-0318 or info@aarautoglass.com with the vehicle, damage and service address. AAR is open 24/7, but a same-day appointment depends on availability and the job’s requirements. Wait for the date, time and location to be confirmed before changing your plans.
How should I confirm my payment method?
Ask AAR which payment methods are available for your specific service before the appointment. If an insurer or another payer is involved, confirm those arrangements at the same time so the payment plan is clear before work begins.
What determines repair versus windshield replacement?
The damage needs assessment rather than a decision based only on how small it looks. Size, depth, location and overall glass condition affect suitability. AAR can review those factors and discuss the appropriate service; neither repair eligibility nor an invisible finish should be assumed.
Can AAR source glass for a classic or uncommon vehicle?
Start with the year, make, model and the exact glass needed. Uncommon vehicles require a check of glass availability and installation requirements before AAR can confirm service. Request that review before arranging transport or committing to an appointment.
How do I request pricing for several vehicles?
Prepare a list of the vehicles and the work each one needs, along with the proposed Houston-area service location. Ask AAR for a fleet or multiple-vehicle quote and confirm any current pricing offer. A discount is not guaranteed simply because several vehicles are included.
What should I do if glass damage occurs during a trip?
If visibility is affected or safe driving is uncertain, reach a safe stopping place as soon as you can safely do so and arrange appropriate assistance. Once stopped safely, call 832-303-0318 to discuss the damage and service availability. Do not make the call or assess the glass while driving.
How can I check for a military offer?
Ask AAR about current military offers when you request the quote. Confirm eligibility, any required verification and the actual discount before scheduling; do not rely on an offer listed for a different business or at another time.
Why does my power window stop working after a break-in?
There may be regulator damage or another window-mechanism fault, but broken glass alone does not identify the failed part. See an auto mechanic if diagnosis is needed. AAR does not diagnose faults, sell parts, shop for parts or collect them. Once you have purchased the correct regulator, AAR can install your supplied part for $145 with free mobile service.
Can every piece of broken door glass be vacuumed out?
AAR makes every effort to remove accessible glass with travel vacuums, but reinforcements inside the door can restrict access. The carpet may need further commercial-vacuum cleanup. Remaining door fragments should be addressed rather than left to work through drain holes. Observe the separate drive-away and car-wash waiting periods before going elsewhere for cleanup.
What is the windshield-sensor responsibility disclosure?
Read the AAR disclosure below alongside the vehicle manufacturer’s calibration requirements. Required calibration is not limited to cases with a warning light or a malfunctioning sensor.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
ADAS DRIVER SAFETY SYSTEM CALIBRATION:
The customer acknowledges that certain windshields replaced (https://aarautoglass.com/warranty-information-disclosures/) by AAR Auto Glass may contain sensors for items such as lane departure warning system, lane keep assist, forward collision alert, collision assist, smart city brake, or any other sensor which controls the movement of the vehicle. AAR Auto Glass has given the customer notice that the original equipment manufacturer may require the windshield sensor to be recalibrated or programmed after it is transferred from the broken windshield to a new windshield.
AAR Auto Glass does not warrant or guarantee the proper function of any windshield sensor that was removed from a broken windshield.
The customer further acknowledges that it will be the customer’s sole responsibility and expense to confirm the proper operation of the windshield sensor, or to recalibrate or reprogram any malfunctioning sensor that was removed from the customer’s broken windshield.
