Windshield care: cleaning, wipers and stubborn residue
This care checklist covers four areas: routine cleaning, wiper condition, stickers and residue from insects or trees. Use a nonabrasive automotive-glass cleaner that is compatible with your vehicle and any film or coating. Follow the product directions rather than mixing a homemade treatment.
Check the wipers as part of the same routine. Clean or replace them as your vehicle instructions require, and choose the correct size and connector. Our windshield wiper selection guide can help you prepare for that check.
For stickers or stubborn residue, confirm the removal method with the vehicle, film or product manufacturer before scraping or applying a solvent. Cleaning cannot repair a chip. Compare damage with our rock-chip repair criteria and ask about windshield replacement if repair is unsuitable. Regular care is useful, but it does not promise a particular glass lifespan.
