What to check when a windshield develops damage
A useful windshield assessment starts with what you have observed. Tell the technician when you first noticed the mark, whether there was a recent impact, and whether the windshield was replaced previously. Mention changes you noticed during hot or cold weather without assuming that weather caused the damage.
Glass selection and the installation method must suit the vehicle. If you suspect a problem after replacement, contact the installer and describe what you have observed. Avoid testing the glass by pushing on it or trying to alter the seal.
For an isolated stone chip, start with our rock-chip repair criteria. If replacement is needed, review our windshield replacement services and ask about parts and aftercare. Between inspections, keep the glass clean and the wipers in good condition; our windshield wiper guide helps with blade-selection questions.
