A practical windshield maintenance checklist

Windshield maintenance includes the glass, the wipers and the condition of existing damage. Check for new chips or cracks while cleaning. Record where the damage is and arrange an assessment; its size alone does not guarantee a repair. Our rock-chip repair page explains the business’s current eligibility criteria.

Inspect wiper rubber for visible deterioration and check whether the blades clear the glass properly. Clean the glass and blades with products suitable for your vehicle. Replace damaged blades, and use your owner’s manual for fit and maintenance intervals rather than treating one annual schedule as sufficient for every car.

The windshield wiper selection guide provides a starting point for choosing replacements. Tell the technician if a mark has changed since you first noticed it, and whether it affects your view. If damage is unsuitable for chip repair, ask about windshield replacement options.
