5 Tips on Taking Care of Your Newly Replaced Windshield

Once you get a windshield replaced, you need to take care of it to minimize any further damage to your pocket. Let’s discuss some tips that will help you do that better.

Be Gentle

Once you get your windshield replaced, you need to wait for at least an hour before driving your car. This way, you can give the urethane adhesive time to set and harden. If you fail to do that, your windshield will not get firmly installed into the car frame. This can be disastrous. Not only will it threaten the structural integrity of your vehicle, but it will also affect your bank account negatively. Furthermore, the following twenty four hours are very crucial. You need to be very gentle with the car. This means you should not slam the car door or take it through rough terrain, especially when all the windows are shut.

Don’t Remove the Retention Tape

While it may not add to the aesthetic appeal of your car, retention tape helps you fix the positioning of the moldings and keeps the glass in place while it’s curing. So we recommend that you to let it stay on for the following 24–48 hours.

Don’t Wash Your Car

You should not take your car to a car wash during this time, or wash it yourself. You’re recommended to wait for at least three days for that, because the moldings may need more time to get fixed into place.

Keep a Window Open

Air pressure buildup in a car may threaten the integrity of the glass. This is why it is recommended to leave a ¼ inch window gap at all times to prevent any leaks or cracks. You’ll keep the pressure equalized that way.

Change Your Route

If the replacement was done on account of some form of vandalism, or poorly constructed, rough roads, we recommend you to change your route. Drive along some other route and park in different, shady spots to keep yourself and your car safe! Auto glass replacement can be quite scary, especially with so many non-authorized sellers clouding the market.
