Start with assessment, not an automatic replacement
A damaged windshield does not always require the same solution. Repair of Laminated Automotive Glass: repairable damage describes repair considerations and limits. Ask a technician to explain whether the damage can be repaired or whether replacement is appropriate for your vehicle. Do not treat a photograph or a generic size rule as a complete decision.
Understand the proposed work
If replacement is recommended, ask which glass will be installed and whether your vehicle’s equipment changes the work required. Note cameras, sensors and other windshield features when requesting an estimate. Ford ADAS calibration guidance illustrates that calibration requirements depend on the equipment and repair event; your own vehicle manufacturer’s procedures govern the job.
Plan the handover
Installation time and the time before the vehicle can be driven are separate questions. Ask the installer for the required waiting period and written aftercare directions. AGSC minimum drive-away times explains that the adhesive and installation conditions affect minimum drive-away time. Do not substitute a generic waiting period from an unrelated vehicle.
Keep the estimate and work details so you know whom to contact with a question afterward. If visibility is impaired before the appointment, arrange suitable assistance rather than assuming that scheduling a replacement makes the vehicle safe to drive.
